Getting your garden summer ready!

As the last traces of winter begin to fade and brighter, longer days return, it’s the perfect moment to turn our attention back to the garden. After months of rain, frost, and blustery weather, outdoor spaces can often feel a little tired and neglected - but with a little care and inspiration, they can quickly be brought back to life.

At Casa, we believe your garden is so much more than just an outdoor area; it is an extension of your home. A place to relax, entertain, and enjoy those simple moments.

Whether you are planning a full refresh or just a few seasonal updates, now is the ideal time to start preparing for the months ahead.

To help you along the way, we have put together a quick and easy guide filled with tips to get your garden looking its absolute best for the summer.

Keep It Hydrated

Warm weather means thirsty plants and lawns the key is consistency, not overwatering.
Water early in the morning or later in the evening to reduce evaporation.
Focus on the roots, not the leaves.
Use a watering can or hose with a gentle flow to avoid disturbing soil.
Use relevant plant feed where needed to maximise flowering and improve plant quality.

Cutting Your Lawn

In summer, your lawn grows quickly - but cutting it too often (or not enough) can do more harm than good. The sweet spot is all about balance. Once a week is ideal for most lawns during peak growing season.
Fill in any bare patches with lawn seed and top soil for regular growth - this is best to do in early Spring or Autumn.
Never remove more than one-third of the grass height at a time, to create a thicker growth.
Mow when the grass is dry (late morning or early evening works best)

Looking After Plotted Plants

In warm weather, most potted plants need watering every 1–2 days.
Check before you water - stick your finger about an inch into the soil - if it’s dry, it needs watering.
When watering, aim for the base of the plant, not the leaves so that the water reaches the roots.
Plants like herbs and flowers tend to need more frequent watering than succulents.
Avoid watering in direct midday sun for maximum moisture.

Patio Maintenance

Sweep regularly to remove dust, leaves and debris.
Give it a light rinse with a hose every couple of weeks and a brush (only use water).
Move plant pots regularly to prevent overflow marks.
Avoid letting water pool - it can lead to staining or algae.
Clear fallen leaves or petals before they stain (especially in rainy season).
Shake out or air outdoor rugs and cushions to avoid mould or built-up dirt.
Keep furniture to your patio area to avoid damaging grass.

By taking a little time to care for your garden now, you can create a space that thrives all summer long. Whether it’s lush green lawns, vibrant potted plants, or a fresh and inviting patio, these small, consistent efforts will make a big difference. With the right balance of maintenance and enjoyment, your garden can become the perfect place to relax, entertain, and make the most of the warmer days ahead.
